New AZ Legislation Proposes Mandatory Spay/Neuter

Legislation (HB 2516 - An Act Amending Sections 11-1008, 11-1011 and 11-1022, Arizona Revised Statutes; Relating to Animal Control) was introduced in January, 2008 with the goal to change the current laws to include mandatory neuter/spay of all cats and dogs over the age of 6 months. This legislation would be extremely detrimental to established pedigreed cat breeding programs, will endanger the very existence of our beloved breeds and could affect your chances of owning a pedigreed cat in the future. It was assigned to the following committees on January 28, 2008: 1) Counties, Municipalities and Military Affairs, 2) Government and 3) Rules. Members of these committees can be found here:
  1. Counties, Municipalities and Military Affairs
  2. Government
  3. Rules

This bill received first reading on January 28th; second reading on January 29th.

Our members are keeping up-to-date with progress on this legislation. We urge Arizona breeders and pet owners to stay current with the progress of this legislation, and join the fight against it. Subscribe to the following Yahoo! mailing list in order to do so -

Annual Cat Show

The major yearly project of the Phoenix Feline Fanciers is the hosting of an annual cat show on the second weekend of December. The management, planning and production of the annual cat show takes a great deal of work. We always want our show to be one that will be attractive to exhibitors from across North America, and the cat-loving spectators of the greater Phoenix area. We spend much time at our meetings working out and fine-tuning the many details required to host a successful show.

Our next show will be held on December 27-28, 2008. Join us, and see what it is all about!

Perpetual Memorial Trophies

Perpetual TrophiesIn 2001, Phoenix Feline Fanciers mourned the loss of two of their founding members, Craig Rothermel and Becky Cotter. In their memory, the club established the Craig Rothermel Memorial Trophy for the highest scoring cat in Championship, and the Becky Cotter Memorial Trophy for the highest scoring cat in Premiership.  These trophies are on display at our annual show in December. The name of the winning cat and its owner is inscribed on the trophy each year. A small permanent award is presented to the winners.

Cookbook

Phoenix Feline Fanciers CookbookDuring 2003, the members of Phoenix Feline Fanciers enthusiastically began a project to produce a cookbook. As we all know, cat fanciers like to eat and most of the goodies and munchies that find their way to cat shows are unbelievably yummy! We decided it was time to share these delicious foods with everyone, and began collecting recipes from breeders and exhibitors around the world. The end result is the fantastic Phoenix Feline Fanciers Purrfectly Delicious Recipes & Other Cool Stuff - containing an incredible compilation of over 350 receipes for appetizers, finger foods, entrees, desserts, and drinks. Compiled in a 3-ring binder, this book is ideally designed so you can add your own favorite recipes as well.

If you are interested in purchasing a copy, and being able to sample these culinary delights, please email Linda Jones for full details. Price: $15.00
